West Plains, Mo. – On Saturday, November 20, a fire at the Lincoln Street Electric Substation led to an approximately three-hour power outage across the City of West Plains.
Public Works Director Jeff Hanshaw said the City’s insurance provider is expected in town this week to investigate the incident. “Once we know what our insurance reimbursement looks likes we will start making plans to rebuild the substation,” Hanshaw added.
In the meantime, City of West Plains Electric Crews have begun spreading the Lincoln Street substation’s responsibilities to other substations around town and has energized the Washington Avenue substation. The Washington Ave. substation has been offline since it was damaged in the 2017 flood. It has been repaired and will join the power grid in the coming days.
The reallocation of power is not expected to cause outages, however, it is possible. If residents experience any outages, please call City Hall at 417-256-7176.
