Panthers at Southwest Baptist for Monday match-up, 6 pm

Panthers travel to Southwest Baptist Monday, 6 pm
The Drury Panthers play at Southwest Baptist on Monday at 6 pm in Bolivar, Missouri, in a make-up game that was originally scheduled on Jan. 4. Issues with COVID-19 on the Drury roster forced the game to be postponed.

The Panthers are 5-9 and 2-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. On Saturday, Drury played their first game in 14 days, and only their fourth game since Dec. 18, and with eight available players, came away with an 82-76 win at home over Missouri S&T.

Southwest Baptist is in first place in the GLVC-West. The Bearcats are 13-4 and 7-3 in the conference. Southwest Baptist won Saturday, defeating Maryville 74-66 at home.

Monday’s game is the first meeting of the season between the Highway 13 rivals and is the first game against one another since Drury’s 99-97 win in Bolivar in last year’s GLVC Quarterfinals on March 3. The Panthers had not played in more than two weeks and only had seven available players as they knocked off the third-seeded Bearcats after losing the two regular season meetings to SBU.

Drury leads the all-time series 41-21.

Malek Davis leads the Panthers averaging 14.4 points and three assists. Victor Nwagbarachoa is coming off of a 22-point, 10-rebound game on Saturday against Missouri S&T.

About the Bearcats
Southwest Baptist is in first place in the GLVC-West and they own a three-game lead in the loss column over William Jewell as they start the week. The Bearcats have gone just 4-3, though, since Jan. 6.

SBU leads the GLVC in scoring margin outscoring opponents by 13.4 points as they own the league’s second-best offense (79.4 ppg and a .492 FG pct.), and the conference’s third-best defense (allowing 66.1 ppg). Their +10.5 rebounding margin also leads the GLVC, with the next closest team six rebounds behind.

Quinn Nelson and Mitch Ganote lead the Bearcats in scoring, with both averaging 14.1 points. Ganote leads the GLVC in assists averaging five per game.

Next Up
The Panthers head to St. Louis for two games later this week. Drury is at Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday for a 7:30 pm game. On Saturday, the Panthers are at Lindenwood with a 3 pm tipoff in St. Charles, Missouri.
