Edna Louise (Cox) Simon, a longtime resident of Mountain View, MO passed away Friday, March 31, 2023, while at her residence with her family at her side. She was born August 29, 1935, to Glen and Thelma (Norris) Cox in Willow Springs, MO; she was 87 years old.
Louise grew up in Willow Springs and attended elementary at the one-room schoolhouse at Stony Point. She went on to attend Willow Springs High School, graduating with the Class of 1955. She worked several years for the Rawlings Sporting Goods Company, stitching baseballs, and lacing baseball gloves, among other jobs. She married the love of her life, Kenny Simon on December 26, 1966, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Willow Springs. This union was blessed by four children. She loved each of her children and their unique personalities. Kenny asked her to come help with milking the cows ‘just’ one time. This one time lasted 40-plus years! She worked alongside her husband on their dairy farm doing whatever needed to be done all while raising four children. She was very accomplished at jobs like milking, raking hay, and numerous other tasks and cooking from scratch to quickly have dinner on the table. She loved to garden, raise houseplants, and loved flowers of all colors. She created many beautiful quilts for her family and was an avid reader and loved to work on puzzles. She was known affectionately as MeMe by her grandchildren and family.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenny; four brothers, Kenneth, Ervin, Grant, and Larry Cox, and one sister, Wanda Chritton. She was also preceded in death by nephews, Greg Cox and Grant David Cox.
She is survived by a son, Joseph Alan (Darlene) Simon; and daughters, Anna (Joey) Smith of Springfield, MO; Wanda Lou Simon of Little Rock, AR; and Susan (Ben) Slemmer of Dorsey, IL. Further surviving are two grandsons; Luke Slemmer and Ethan Smith and a granddaughter, Sam Wallace (Andrew Ludwig). Also surviving are two sisters, Janice Gregory and Glenda (Tom) Verlander of Republic, MO; and a brother, Clifford (Louise) Cox of West Plains, MO; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Cox, Marietta Cox, and Ingrid Larson; brother-in-law, Clarence Chritton, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made out to the family to help defray funeral expenses and may be left at the funeral home.
