West Plains, MO. – The death of a tree in West Plains has led to a new piece of artistic tribute to a local legend.
At the West Plains Ozark Heritage Welcome Center, home of the Explore West Plains nonprofit group, a large, old oak tree died, which led to the decision of what to do with it. Officials with the Welcome Center decided it could serve as an opportunity to make a new piece of art for the city, which led to the contracting of Jason Morton of Eagle Ridge Chainsaw Carvings to make a unique piece.
What started as a dead tree in front of the Welcome Center is now a tribute to Porter Wagoner, as the wood has been carved into the shape of the country music star’s famous guitar. The new piece is complete and can be seen in-person by going to the Ozark Heritage Welcome Center, located at 2999 Porter Wagoner Blvd West Plains.
