JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Legislature today passed HB 594 & 508, sweeping legislation that delivers direct tax relief to Missouri families, strengthens local communities, and supports long-term economic growth.
Rep. Matthew Overcast praised the package, which eliminates burdensome taxes on everyday essentials and expands property tax relief for seniors, while also encouraging investment and innovation across the state.
“As a father of five and a proud representative of rural Missouri, I know firsthand how every dollar matters to working families,” Rep. Overcast, R-Ava, said. “These tax cuts aren’t about politics—they’re about practical relief for parents, seniors, and everyday Missourians. House Bills 594 and 508 reflect our commitment to putting families first, empowering local communities, and making sure Missouri remains a place where hard work is rewarded and opportunity is within reach.”
Key provisions of HB 594 & 508 include:
- Ending state sales tax on diapers and feminine hygiene products
- Eliminating state capital gains tax on the sale of homes, farms, retirement accounts, and other investments.
- Expanding the “Circuit Breaker” property tax credit for seniors and Missourians with disabilities and tying future thresholds to inflation.
- Investing in public safety, supporting local law enforcement and first responders.
- Boosting broadband access in rural areas by expanding final-mile infrastructure and removing taxes on broadband equipment.
The legislation now heads to the Governor’s desk.
