Stone County Inmate Work Program Honors Veterans Ahead of and On Memorial Day

Stone County, AR – In a heartfelt tribute leading up to Memorial Day, the Stone County Sheriff’s Office has utilized its inmate work program to assist in honoring local veterans who served the nation.

Over the past several weeks, inmates from the Stone County Detention Center were deployed to multiple cemeteries across the county, where they cleaned grounds and placed American flags on the graves of veterans. The program, carried out in coordination with local Veterans Affairs efforts, serves both as a gesture of gratitude and a community service initiative aimed at preserving the memory of those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

“This is about giving back to those who gave everything,” said Sheriff Brandon Long, who praised the program as a meaningful way to recognize veterans during the Memorial Day season.

The Sheriff’s Office extended special recognition to Deputy John Crisman for his leadership and commitment in organizing and overseeing the project. “Deputy Crisman’s dedication and untiring efforts were instrumental in making this tribute possible,” Sheriff Long added.

The effort highlights not only a spirit of remembrance but also the value of inmate work programs that foster rehabilitation through service to the community. It is part of the department’s broader goal to contribute positively to Stone County while ensuring that veterans’ legacies are honored with the respect they deserve.
