MARION COUNTY, Ark. — A Marion County resident is facing serious legal charges after an extensive investigation linked him to an interstate child exploitation case originally flagged by a national cybercrime watchdog.
According to a sworn affidavit filed in Marion County Circuit Court, John David Edwards Jr., 31, is the subject of an arrest warrant following allegations tied to child sexual abuse material (CSAM) discovered online. The case originated from a CyberTip submitted by Google in early 2024, which was escalated by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) due to the nature of the files involved.
The CyberTip led authorities to a series of online accounts connected to Edwards, including verified email addresses and phone numbers. Over 30 files were flagged by Google as possible CSAM. Some of the content was unfamiliar to national databases, prompting concern that the material may involve previously unidentified victims.
The investigation, conducted jointly by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and local law enforcement in Clarke County, GA, revealed that the online activity spanned from Georgia to Mountain Home, Arkansas, where Edwards had recently relocated. The suspect’s digital footprint included multiple social media accounts and platforms such as Google, TikTok, and Facebook.
Investigators say the IP addresses linked to the alleged uploads were traced to service providers in both Athens, GA and Marion County, AR, ultimately placing the suspect in both locations during the timeframe of the incidents. Additional warrants issued for online data and subscriber information supported law enforcement’s findings. The materials were uncovered during an investigation led by Arkansas State Police Special Agent Rodney Villiger, who later obtained and executed a search warrant at Edwards’ residence at 251 Railroad Trail in Yellville on June 18, 2025.
Court documents indicate that Edwards’ identity was confirmed through various records, including images of his Georgia state ID, employment records, and self-posted photographs found in cloud storage. Authorities also discovered personal messages, subscription data, and links to known social media usernames used by the suspect.
The Marion County Circuit Court issued an arrest warrant for Edwards on July 11, 2025. Officials are urging anyone with relevant information to contact local law enforcement or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
