Alton Resident Facing 1st Degree Involuntary Manslaughter Charge for 2024 Crash

Alton, MO. – An Alton resident is facing a 1st Degree Involuntary Manslaughter charge as a result of a crash that happened last year.

On September 20th, 2024, Joy Barton, born 1979, is reported to have crashed into a Kubota RTV on US Highway 160 near County Road 335.

The Kubota was found to have been painted bright orange, was equipped with flashing lights and a “slow moving vehicle” sign, and there were no skid marks indicating an attempt at braking before the crash. In addition, Barton showed symptoms of nystagmus, likely created due to a combination of taken medications, Wellbutrin and Lexapro.

The operator of the RTV was pronounced deceased at the scene due to injuries sutained. Barton has been scheduled to see Judge Harvey Allen in Oregon County for this charge on September 10th.
