Former Deputy Indicted for Theft

On August 13, 2025, the Howell County Grand Jury indicted former Howell County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Brian Jackson of Cabool, Missouri, on two counts of Stealing Over $750, a Class D Felony.
This case began in April 2024 under former Sheriff Brent Campbell, when an employee reported suspected fraudulent use of overtime grants and extra duty. A Sheriff’s Office investigator uncovered what appeared to be criminal activity, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control was asked to take over the investigation on May 15, 2024.
The investigation revealed that Jackson engaged in deliberate, long-term theft. Records and traffic stops were falsified, and government databases were abused to carry out this scheme. Despite this, Jackson remained employed until his termination on July 24, 2024.
On August 25, 2025, the Operation Relentless Pursuit Task Force and Cabool Police Department arrested Jackson at his home. He was booked into the Howell County Jail and later released on bond.
A message from Sheriff Matt Roberts:
While these crimes occurred before I took office, I want to be clear: I will not tolerate this type of behavior from any employee of the Howell County Sheriff’s Office. The public has every right to expect our law enforcement officers to act with honor and integrity. If any deputy under my command chooses to betray that trust, they will be held fully accountable.
I apologize to the citizens of Howell County for the actions of this former employee, and I remain committed to restoring and maintaining your trust in this office.
