University of Missouri Extension Hosts New Wellness Initiative: Functional Fitness- A Chair Yoga Approach

WEST PLAINS, MO – The University of Missouri Extension is excited to announce the launch of a new wellness initiative for older adults in Howell County: Functional Fitness – A Chair Yoga Approach. This free program is designed to support the physical and emotional well-being of seniors through gentle, accessible movement.

The program is currently seeking volunteers aged 65 and older to participate in a 12-week pilot study. Participants will attend twice-weekly chair yoga classes and provide feedback on their experience to help determine the program’s effectiveness.

Program Details:

  • Location: Howell County Extension Office, 1376 Bill Verdon Blvd, West Plains, MO
  • Dates: September 29, 2025 – January 7, 2026
  • Schedule: Mondays and Wednesdays, 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM
  • Cost: Free

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be 65 years or older
  • Able to attend 24 classes over 12 weeks
  • Willing to complete pre- and post-program surveys
