The West Plains R-VII School District is pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Matthew Orchard as the new Deputy Superintendent, effective July 1, 2026. Orchard brings a wealth of experience in educational leadership and a long-standing commitment to the West Plains community.
Dr. Wesley Davis, Superintendent of West Plains R-VII School District, said: “Mr. Orchard goes above and beyond for the students, staff, and patrons he serves. Without hesitation or question, he offers help in any way needed to ensure our schools operate smoothly and our students succeed. I have full confidence in his ability to support the district and its community in this new role. As good an educator that he is…he is an even better person.”
Orchard has served as the District’s Director of Human Resources and Student Services since 2022. Prior to that, he served as principal of West Plains High School (2020–2022), assistant principal of West Plains Middle School (2018–2020), and assistant principal of West Plains Elementary (2016–2018). His career in education began in 2009 at the Mountain View-Birch Tree School District, where he worked as the alternative school coordinator, business teacher, and coach.
He holds a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Missouri, further supporting his extensive experience in administration and student-focused leadership. In his role as Deputy Superintendent, Orchard will work closely with Dr. Wesley Davis to ensure a smooth and seamless transition of leadership when Dr. Davis retires on June 30, 2027.

Working alongside Dr. Davis next year will help the district continue to make meaningful progress.”
