Two Ava Residents Arrested for Shoplifting and Drug Possession

Two individuals were arrested on November 14, 2025, following a shoplifting complaint at Dollar General and subsequent drug-related discoveries.

Dollar General employees reported a male and female shoplifting from the store and leaving in a silver Ford Mustang. Officers located the vehicle shortly afterward in the parking lot of Signal and made contact with Todd Hull, 41, and Tara Filbeck, 41.

Both individuals reportedly showed signs of drug use, including dilated pupils, rapid movements, and heavy sweating. Officers detained Hull and Filbeck and advised them of their rights.

A search of Filbeck’s purse revealed a small baggie containing a crystalline substance and a straw commonly used for drug ingestion. The substance later tested positive for methamphetamine. Filbeck also admitted to taking a bath rug and duct tape from Dollar General without paying. The stolen items were valued at $26.24.

Hull consented to a search of his person, during which officers found a cigarette pack containing a baggie of methamphetamine in his pants pocket.

Both were transported to the Douglas County Jail and placed on a 24-hour hold. Hull was charged with possession of a controlled substance. Filbeck was charged with possession of a controlled substance and stealing under $150.
