The Missouri State West Plains Grizzlies continued on with their season this last Wednesday night in their second Region 16 game of the Season, playing host to The (11-6) Mineral Area Cardinals.
The Game was a hard fight for the Grizzlies to make up for their, 90-60 loss over The Moberly Greyhounds last Saturday.
1st Quarter: Tip won by Nazi Allen for The Mineral Area Cardinals but lost out of bounds and will go to The MSU-WP Grizzlies.
A foul called on #1, Tyrell Smith on the inbound for The Grizzlies and #33, Allen will shoot two for Mineral Area. He makes both and Mineral Area gets off to a 4-0 lead as #21, Jordyn Richard shoots two on the rebound. Taken back by the Grizzlies and put up and in by #24, Dassiah Green, but falls short.
Grizzlies having an issue with flow so far as the fans are on their feet and not sitting down. Richard with another hook inside and the game.
Finally a long three by #4, Ace Evans and now Grizzlies trail by three, A 6-3 lead by Mineral Area.
Hook pass in by #33, Allen for Mineral Area as it’s now a 8-3 lead.
Again, Evans bails out the Grizzlies with another three and trail by two as they have spread out and attempt to play some zone.
And now to a one point lead by Evans. But answered back by the Cardinals and #3, Terron Garrett.
Grizzlies having luck on threes but the next shot, another three by Nazir Benyon for The Cardinals. A 17-9 lead now by Mineral Area.
Dassiah Green finally scores at a time out and puts the ball in for two as Grizzlies are down 21-11. Grizzlies keep it and Green passes to #3, Blayne Harris. But a hook pass, another bucket by Binnion for Mineral Area.
Laub inside finally by Ace Evans, Mineral Area still holding a ten point lead.
Another shooter Grizzlies are trying to control is #24, Iziah Purvey for the Cardinals. Purvey scores two, two pointers and a long three.
Mineral Area still beating the Grizzlies so far on offensive rebounds, A 32-21 lead for the Cardinals as Purvey shoots another two.
Grizzlies still holding things up at the throw line as #11, Malachi Lindsey shoots two and this allows the Grizzlies to get a stop and trial by eight, 32-24.
Taken back by Mineral Area as #21 Richard scores two more.A technical foul on The Grizzlies as #5, Edwon Dueling shoots two and this will allow Mineral Area to a 10-2 run as we are at the Halfway point of the first half, 42-24 with under 4 ½ minutes to go.
Grizzlies mostly have scored points at the line, a 10-8 average but hardly matching the athleticism of The Cardinals
HALFTIME- Mineral Area Cardinals: 49/ MSU-WP Grizzlies: 33
2nd Half: Mineral Area looks to make off a tough shot off the hands of #33, Nazir Allen. Missed and the first bucket up and good by #11, Makai Lindsey.
Mineral Area tries to take it back, but a reach and #1, Tyrell Smith shoots two as the Grizzlies trail by ten, 49-39.
Jordyn Richard makes the next trip inside for Mineral Area, but a turnover promises a good next possession for The Grizzlies as they trail by twelve, 58-46.
Grizzlies lose it and Mineral Area comes back with the ball, a pass to #4, Ramello Smith and MAC escalates to a sixteen point lead.
Defensively, Grizzlies are playing will a little more heft but only within striking distance. Two floaters are shot; one by Makai Lindsey and the other with two hands by Ace Evans as Grizzlies come back to trial by twelve.
Smith for Mineral Area picks it back up and goes up and in again, Grizzlies not anywhere close to him as he gets the ball back in and up by fourteen now.
Nazir Allen with another terrific play as he gets the next possession, as Mineral Area continues to beat Grizzlies on offensive rebounds.
Ace Evans shoots another tough floater from the offensive side, Grizzlies trying to come back as they are down by 20 with 8:20 to go, 77-57.
From the left wing, a three is good by Shaun Glass after another baseline jumper by #10, Nasir Binnion.
Grizzlies fall by twenty as Mineral Area gets the win, 94-74
