Mizzou women’s basketball earned its largest Southeastern Conference win since 2019 with a 94-69 win over Arkansas on Thursday night at Mizzou Arena.
The 25-point victory is Mizzou’s (13-7, 1-4 SEC) largest in conference play since an 87-56 win over Florida in the SEC tournament on March 7, 2019, and the point output was good for the Tigers most in a league game since posting 96 against Florida on Feb. 21, 2021.
Senior forward Jordana Reisma led Missouri with 21 points, connecting on a career-best tying pair of triples, along with four rebounds.
Junior guard Grace Slaughter earned her sixth double-double on the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Junior guard Shannon Dowell and sophomore guard Chloe Sotell each followed as Dowell chipped in 17 points and Sotell added 16, the pair both grabbed three steals.
Missouri held Arkansas (11-9, 0-5 SEC) scoreless for the first 4:57 with the first seven points belonging to the Tigers’ including five by Reisma, while starting on a 13-2 run overall led by eight Reisma points. The run was capped by a 3-pointer from Sotell that forced an Arkansas timeout.
The Tigers held a 20-4 lead at the close of the first quarter thanks to its 63-percent mark from the field. The Razorback’s four points were the fewest scored by an MU opponent in the first quarter this season as Mizzou enjoyed its largest lead at the conclusion of an opening frame all year.
Triples in the early minutes of the second by Reisma and Sotell continued the Tigers’ offensive onslaught and increased the Mizzou advantage to 21.
Arkansas settled in offensively and slowly cut into Missouri’s advantage over a four-minute stretch in the second, but Missouri closed the half by making its last four shots, including a final triple by senior guard Saniah Tyler, to head to the locker room ahead 42-28.
The sides exchanged buckets to open the second half before a pair of runs extended Missouri’s lead and the Tigers would not look back. First, an 8-0 run in which Slaughter scored five of her eight third-quarter points, then the Tigers closed the third quarter on a 7-1 spurt in the final 98 seconds to take a 66-44 advantage into the fourth.
Another scoring charge early in the fourth gave the Tigers their largest lead of the game as an 18-5 run spanning half of the closing quarter allowed Mizzou to cruise to victory.
