Funeral services for Thomas Eugene Goodwin, Age 89 of Shannon County, Missouri will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Yarber Mortuary, Mountain View, Missouri, with Bro. Darrell Derryberry officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., also at the funeral home. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mountain View. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas Eugene “Gene” Goodwin. He was born on March 15, 1936, to Charley and Edna Goodwin. He left for heaven on January 18, 2026.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Charley and Edna Goodwin; his sisters, Bert Lawrence, Vernal Mofield, Pauline Woolsey, Dorothy, and Bonita Allen; and his brothers Charles Lee and Curtis George.
He leaves behind his wife, Fern; three daughters, Darlene Walters of St. Louis, MO, Charlene Flory of St. Louis, and Ferniece Martin of Winona, MO; three sons, Tony Goodwin of St. Louis, Curtis Goodwin of Houston, TX, and Donnie Johnson of Winona; one sister, Sue Sharp; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Gene began his career trucking in St. Louis, often sending money home to help his family in Teresita, Missouri. He eventually found the career he liked best in truck driving for various companies in St. Louis and Mountain View, Missouri.
He had a few hobbies, which included woodworking, making and donating wooden canes to various people, and his favorite was playing his guitar and singing. Gene gave his heart to the Lord around 2011 and was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Winona, Missouri. He loved the Lord and often performed on stage at his church and throughout southern Missouri. Throughout his life, he was often told he had a great radio voice.
