The Willow Springs Lady Bears took on the 23-6, Skyline Lady Tigers in a State Quarterfinal Matchup at Nixa High School in Nixa, Missouri on Friday, March 6th, 2026.
Lady Bears remained at a close distance to the Lady Tigers in the first half, but pulled away as The Lady Tigers won the district title and the ballgame by a Final of 67-55
Willow won the tipoff and immediately got a quick turnover to skyline, they fortunately missed their first possession and willow came back down the court and scored a three to take the lead. Skyline answered right back with their own three and got a steal right after. Skyline opened up the game with immense pressure upon the lady bears, it was a fierce battle between these strong teams. Skyline were full-court pressing the lady bears making sure they don’t get any offensive momentum. The scoring was crazy close between both teams. Skyline were doing a great job getting offensive rebounds while Willow were moving the ball quick and scoring. Skyline called a timeout to try and talk it over. The first quarter was winding down and the game was still close. Skyline’s press was causing major problems for Willow. But Willow was still pushing through trying to stay in the game. The first quarter ended with the score of 19-18, with Skyline having the lead. The 2nd quarter opened up with Willow having the ball. Willow got their tenth turnover and skyline scored a three. Then it happened again on the very next possession. This caused Skyline to gain a greater lead. Even though Willow had a major problem with turnovers, the score did remain closer than it probably should have been from Skyline’s perspective. With halftime approaching, Willow’s turnover counter was up to 17. Skyline got the first double digit lead of the game going up by 10. The halftime score was 36 – 28, with skyline taking a big lead.
The second half opened up with Willow having the ball, the ball got loose on the floor and a jump ball was called, Skyline’s ball. Willow got an and one three on their next possession and made a 4-point play to cut the lead down to four. Skyline’s defense was scary, Willow was still having some trouble trying to stop their offense. Skyline’s lead started to gain again late in the quarter with Skyline getting their biggest lead of the game with a 14-point lead. Willow needed to find something able to turn this game around. The 3rd quarter ended with the score 52 – 40, with skyline looking unstoppable. The final quarter started with Skyline making a 3 after a crazy loose ball situation. Skyline did not stop their press at all this game. They just overwhelmed Willow’s offense entirely. Skyline ended up gaining a 20-point lead, leaving Willow feeling out of hope. Willow got into fouling trouble with 2 minutes left in the game, causing some of the lady bears to foul out. Skyline never stopped their press the entire game, they never took their foot off the gas. Willow did score some to get the lead down a little bit, but it unfortunately wasn’t enough. The final score was 67 – 55, with Skyline taking the win.
Willow Springs Lady Bears end their hard working season with a record of 22-7 for the 2025-2026 year.
