A Thayer woman is facing felony charges after deputies say she tried to run over a man and his dog during a dispute over a dead cat.
According to a probable cause statement, Oregon County deputies and Thayer Police responded Saturday after witnesses reported a woman in a white SUV attempting to hit a man in a yard. Witnesses told Sgt. Michael Bunting that the driver, Melinda Roberts, made two passes—first driving toward the man, then turning around and sliding into a driveway, striking his dog in the leg.
Deputies say video of the incident shows Roberts driving recklessly toward the man and the dog.
Roberts reportedly told officers she was confronting the man because she believed his dog had killed her cat. She denied trying to hit him.
Deputies later arrested Roberts for second-degree assault and armed criminal action. While being transported, the statement says she began banging her head on the cage and resisted as deputies adjusted her handcuffs. She was booked into the Oregon County Jail.
