“To Serve and Protect” took on a whole new meaning on Sunday, July 20th, 2025 in Howell County.
Deputy First Class Robert Malone, a K-9 Deputy with the Howell County Sheriff’s Office, responded to an unusual call involving an unwanted visitor inside a local residence.
What seemed like a routine dispatch quickly turned into a nerve-wracking encounter when the “visitor” turned out to be a large, slithering snake hiding beneath the kitchen sink. Despite having a personal fear of snakes, Deputy Malone didn’t hesitate.
Carefully removing parts of the area around the stove and sink, he stayed focused until he finally located the intruder. With sweat rolling and nerves of steel, he safely secured the snake, removed it from the home, and relocated it to a safe area, just in case it decided to seek revenge.
Every day, deputies like DFC Malone face the unexpected to protect the citizens of Howell County, even when it means confronting their own fears.
Special thanks to Deputy Ryan (OSN 257) for capturing the moment.
There’s no such thing as a “routine” day in law enforcement, and this call is a perfect example of the dedication and heart behind the badge.
