From the Willow Springs Animal Control:
The 4th of July is the absolute worst time of year for anxious pets. So many pets, both dogs and cats, are terrified of fireworks and will run away from their homes – even those who typically stay close. PLEASE, PLEASE keep your pets safe and contained this holiday. Fireworks have already started and will probably continue for several days after the 4th.
– Keep your pets inside or contained in escape-proof kennels or crates, especially when you are not home.
– Make sure they have identification tags or collars with current contact information in case they do get away. If they don’t have tags, write your info on duct tape and loop it through their collar.
– If they are chipped, check the registration information online to ensure your contact information is up-to-date. If not chipped, you may still be able to visit your vet in time to have them chipped.
– Take a current photo of your pet to post if necessary.
Enjoy your holiday, but keep in mind that the shelters are all overflowing and not all areas have Animal Control, so a lost pet can end up with someone who may not go to the trouble of finding their owners, or worse.
