Alton ATV driver airlifted after being struck by Hummer

Alton, MO. – An Alton man is in serious condition after the ATV he was driving was struck by a Hummer on Monday afternoon. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, the crash occurred on Highway 19, two miles north of Alton at 2:45 p.m. on Jan. 29, 2024.

A Polaris Ranger driven by Edwin Bettis, age 63 of Alton, was attempting to make a left turn when it was struck from behind by a Hummer H2 driven by Christy Casey, age 68 of Alton. The Ranger was totaled in the crash and the Hummer received minor damage.

Bettis suffered serious injuries in the crash and was airlifted to Cox South Hospital in Springfield for treatment. Casey was not injured in the crash.
