(Alton, MO) The Alton R-IV School District is set to receive several major facility upgrades, thanks to a generous donation from a group of anonymous alumni.
The privately funded projects include:
-
Installation of new lights at the baseball field, including necessary electrical work
-
Sandblasting and repainting of awnings covering sidewalks and stairways across the district
-
A full repaint and updated branding of the district’s FEMA building
“These improvements were selected by the donors and made possible entirely through their generosity,” said Alton Superintendent Mrs. Reese. “Their gift reflects a strong sense of pride and a desire to invest in the experiences of today’s students.”
District officials were quick to clarify that no taxpayer dollars or district operating funds are being used for the projects. With recent reductions in state and federal funding, the district has prioritized protecting educational programs, staffing, and student services.
“At a time when our budget is especially tight, this gift allows us to move forward on needed upgrades without impacting our core mission,” said Mrs. Reese. “We’re incredibly grateful for the support of these alumni.”
Some of the updates may be visible as early as the Back to School Fair on August 4, scheduled from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with changes to the FEMA building likely to be among the first seen by the public.
“This is more than a donation — it’s a testament to the lifelong impact of our schools and the strength of the Alton community,” Mrs. Reese added.
