Attention: Associated Electric Cooperative has cancelled the rolling blackouts at this time. There is still a possibility that it could happen later today
—————————
Associated Electric Cooperative has notified the 53 electric cooperatives it serves in Missouri and Oklahoma that in order to protect the transmission grid and to prevent long term outages, Associated Electric Cooperative will be initiating load shedding, otherwise called rolling blackouts, with the 53 electric cooperatives it serves. Load shedding will be commencing at approximately 7:30 am. For Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative, Sho-Me Power Electric Cooperative, will be performing the load shedding per substation. No substation will be left off more than one hour and Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative will position linemen at the substations to assist any members whose power does not come back on.
The way this will occur on Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative’s system will be by Sho-Me Power Electric Cooperative deenergizing an entire substation. The outage should last no longer than one hour and then the substation will be re-energized and another substation on the system will be turned off. The rotation of substations will occur until the electrical grid can manage the electrical load across it.
Associated is not alone. Many utilities have already begun load shedding. Associated has tried to avoid the load shedding but no longer can.
The extreme amount of cold weather effecting a large region of our country at one time is the simplest answer for why load shedding must occur.
Howell-Oregon once again thanks its members for their continued patience while we navigate through this unprecedented situation.
