POMONA, MO – Local law enforcement is investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred early Thursday morning on US 63, approximately 1.5 miles south of Pomona.
Just before 3:30 AM, authorities received reports of a wrong-way driver traveling in the area. Minutes later, a crash was reported in the northbound lanes of US 63. Officers from the West Plains Police Department were the first to arrive on the scene. They discovered two vehicles involved in a collision. One occupant was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene. The second vehicle was found abandoned, as the driver had fled on foot.
Deputies from the Howell County Sheriff’s Department and Troopers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrived shortly after to assist. Following a search of the area, the fleeing driver was located and taken into custody.
The driver faces multiple felony charges, including:
• Fleeing the scene of an accident
• Operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (DWI)
• Numerous misdemeanor charges
