Wright County authorities arrested a Cabool man after a Mansfield traffic stop led to the discovery of methamphetamine and two firearms with a 3‑year‑old child in the vehicle, according to a probable cause statement filed May 2.
Deputy Wyatt Kinser reported stopping a white SUV on Highway A after noticing the front license plate “attached diagonally across the front bumper, making it difficult to read.”
The driver, identified as Joshua Lynn Burdick, appeared nervous and admitted there was a firearm in the vehicle, the statement says. A K9 unit was called, and the dog alerted to narcotics. During the search, deputies found “a long, slender glass pipe… and a small plastic baggie with a crystal‑like residue,” which field‑tested positive for methamphetamine.
Deputies also located a short‑barreled rifle loaded with one round in the chamber and 26 in the magazine, along with a Glock 45 containing 17 rounds. A 3‑year‑old child was in a car seat in the back seat during the stop.
Burdick was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, unlawful use of a weapon under subsection 11 (two counts), and endangering the welfare of a child. He later admitted during a post‑arrest interview that he had recently used methamphetamine and would test positive if given a UA.
He was booked into the Wright County Jail on a 10,000.00 bond.
