The Cotter City Council has officially passed Ordinance 2025-01, authorizing the use of golf carts on city streets beginning August 1. Approved during the Council’s June 26 meeting, the ordinance is designed to provide Cotter residents a safe and practical option for local transportation.
Under the new law, individuals 16 years of age or older with a valid driver’s license will be permitted to operate golf carts within city limits, with some restrictions. Golf carts will not be allowed on state or federal highways, county roads, or at crossings involving those roadways.
Permits and annual inspections will be required, both managed by the Cotter Police Department. Inspection checklists and permit applications are now available through the department.
The ordinance applies exclusively to golf carts. The use of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and utility task vehicles (UTVs) on city streets remains prohibited under Arkansas law.
For additional information or to apply for a golf cart permit, residents may contact the Cotter Police Department.
