From a Probable Cause Statement, Jimmy Shane Hoornaert has been arrested after shooting two Intercounty Electric linemen on Tuesday. According to the probable cause statement, the Dent County Sherriff’s office received a call from intercounty electric stating that two of their linemen had been shot with what was believed to be a shotgun. Officers traveled to the given location and made contact with Jimmy Shane Hooraert who admitted to firing three shots into the air because his neighbor and 10-year-old boy had been (messing) with him. He stated that the neighbors were trying to get back at him for turning them in and they were (messing) with his camper.
The officers then made contact with the linemen and it was observed that there were wounds on the right knee and left ear, the men stated that they saw a muzzle flash and a 4-wheeler riding away. Hoornaert had used a .223 in which casings were found but says he shot straight into the air, when the officer stated the men had been hit, Hoornaert said it must have been out of the trees. Jimmy Shane Hoornaert has been charged with 2 counts of assault, armed criminal action, illegal use of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance.
The Lineman were taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment of their injuries.
