Dose of Goodness: Thank You for Stepping Up: Volunteer Appreciation Week

This one is for the everyday heroes—those amazing individuals without capes, quietly making the world a better place from the sidelines. The ones who step up, help out, and give back simply because they can.

There are countless ways to volunteer, and if I listed them all, this article would be pages long. So today, I want to spotlight just a few of the incredible ways people in our community choose to give their time.

Priority Pet Care – Make An Appointment

To the volunteers at rescues, shelters, and animal controls—thank you. You spend your free time walking dogs who’ve spent all night in kennels, giving them the joy of fresh air and freedom. You sit with scared animals, play with them, comfort them, and help them feel loved—if only for a moment. You do it not for recognition, but to make an animal’s day brighter.

To the volunteers in nursing homes and hospitals, thank you. You offer your time to those who need it most, listening to stories that feel like history lessons and bringing smiles to the faces of patients and elders. Whether you’re answering phones or simply offering companionship, your impact is priceless.

To those who give time, energy, and heart to nonprofit organizations, thank you. Whether you’re packing birthday gifts for foster kids with Birthday Blessings, serving food to the homeless at Martha Vance Samaritan Outreach, or helping plan events to raise funds for causes that matter, your kindness moves mountains.

To the volunteer firefighters and rural station crews—thank you. You stay on call 24/7, ready to run toward danger when others run away. You do it selflessly, without hesitation, and with bravery that deserves the highest respect.

To the people who pick up litter, clean up parks, and keep our roads and forests beautiful, thank you. Your efforts don’t go unnoticed, and your pride in your community is contagious.

To those who stop to help a stranger on the side of the road, offer a ride, or lend a hand without ever expecting anything in return, thank you. You remind us that kindness lives in small moments, too.

To all the unsung heroes out there—we see you, we appreciate you, and we celebrate you.

Happy Volunteer Appreciation Week! Your goodness inspires more goodness, and our communities are better because of you
