From the Douglas County Sherriff’s Department:
Late last night, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office intercepted messages from a group chat in which 3 minor children were making threats of violence toward the school and staff. Contact was made with the parents of the minor children, and those children will not be at school today. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Ava Police Department have additional staffing in and around the school today. The Ava Schools are following their policies and procedures regarding disciplinary actions.
Douglas County Sheriff Chris Degase, Sgt. Aaron Box and Deputy Jonathan Harley worked with Superintendent Dalton and SRO Brandon Reed until the early morning hours to ensure this situation was properly investigated. The safety of the students and staff is our top priority.
