Friends of Ferals to Hold Spay it Forward in August

WILLOW SPRINGS, MO — A local grassroots nonprofit is throwing a celebration to recognize months of hard work, community support, and compassion for animals—and everyone is invited.

Friends of Ferals will host its “#FoFCatsRock – Spay It Forward” Celebration on Saturday, August 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. at The American Legion on North Walnut Street in Willow Springs. The event is free and open to the public, with food, family-friendly activities, raffles, and a special art reveal honoring both cats and the people who care for them.

The celebration caps off a summer-long campaign to provide free or low-cost spay and neuter services for “community cats”—unowned, outdoor cats that often go unseen but are regularly cared for by dedicated volunteers and neighbors.

“These cats are part of our community,” said Emmy Jenson, President of Friends of Ferals. “This work is about reducing suffering and improving lives—for animals and people alike. When we provide spay/neuter access, we create more peaceful neighborhoods and support the unsung caretakers doing this work every day.”

Thanks to a matching grant from the United Spay Alliance, all donations raised at the event will be matched up to $2,000, effectively doubling the impact on the local cat population.

Event Highlights:

  • Scavenger Hunt Art Reveal: Local kids, artist Sandy Whitaker, and adult volunteers have painted dozens of unique cat-themed rocks that will be hidden around town as part of the #FoFCatsRock scavenger hunt.

  • Raffle & Silent Auction: Prizes donated by local businesses and residents will be up for grabs, with proceeds going directly toward spay/neuter efforts.

  • Tasty and Inclusive Food Options: Guests can enjoy snacks and treats, including Alpha-Gal friendly options for those with dietary sensitivities.
