Governor Kehoe Orders Capitol Dome Lighted Blue in Recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month

Governor Mike Kehoe has ordered the Missouri State Capitol dome to shine blue beginning at sunset on Friday, April 10, 2026, until sunrise on Saturday, April 11, 2026, in recognition of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.

“Every child deserves to grow up safe, supported, and surrounded by a community that champions their well‑being. Child Abuse Prevention Month reminds us of our shared responsibility to protect our most vulnerable and strengthen families across Missouri,” said Governor Mike Kehoe. “By working together to promote awareness, safety, and early prevention, we can help build a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive.”

National Child Abuse Prevention Month is a time to raise public awareness of the critical importance of protecting children and supporting families. The color blue, symbolized by the blue pinwheel, is the national symbol of child abuse prevention, representing the hope and bright futures every child deserves.

“This lighting is a powerful reminder of our shared commitment to Missouri children,” said Director Jess Bax, Department of Social Services. “Every step we take to educate, support, and intervene early strengthens the foundation for healthier futures for children across our state. By building safe, supportive communities, we reaffirm our promise to give every Missouri child the opportunity to grow, thrive, and succeed.”

The dome lighting aligns with the Child Abuse Prevention Month parade and resource fair in Jefferson City on Saturday, April 11, held in partnership with the Office of Administration’s Office of Child Advocate and multiple State of Missouri agencies. This year’s theme, “Pinwheels of Possibilities,” highlights the hope and opportunities that become possible when families, organizations, and communities work together to prevent child abuse and strengthen families. The parade will include entries from community groups, local businesses, and state agencies committed to supporting children and families. A free resource fair will also take place on the South Capitol Lawn from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., offering families the chance to connect with helpful programs and services.

Additionally, the State of Missouri Children’s Trust Fund will host a Go‑Blue Wellness Walk for child abuse prevention in Jefferson City on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
