Governor Kehoe Signs Senate Bill 1, Enhancing Compensation and Resources for Missouri County Officials

Governor Mike Kehoe signed Senate Bill 1 into law, a measure aimed at improving compensation, access, and accountability for county officials throughout Missouri.

Sponsored by Senator Sandy Crawford and Representative Rodger Reedy, SB 1 introduces several key updates to better support local leaders in non-charter counties. The legislation includes provisions to raise coroner salaries by up to $14,000, particularly when serving temporarily as acting sheriffs, and establishes a consistent pay structure across counties.

The bill also enhances transparency by granting county auditors greater authority to access financial records, addresses a compensation gap for the Boone County Sheriff, and ensures fair pay for public administrators handling dual court-appointed responsibilities.

Governor Kehoe praised the bipartisan effort, stating, “This legislation is about supporting the hard-working officials who have stepped forward to serve our communities… It’s about giving them the tools and recognition they deserve.”
