The project approval came at a city council meeting last week. The city sought input from professionals and citizens in pursuing the idea.

Houston’s system will include speeds up to 1 gigabyte, which is currently unavailable from internet providers in Texas County.

An engineering firm will work on planning out the project for the city, with city buildings being linked first before the rest of the community will receive the option to join the internet.

Public pricepoints have been set.
