Howell County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Middle School Student on Terroristic Threats

West Plains, MO. – The Howell County Sheriff’s Office made an announcement related to the public safety update from the West Plains School District. One 12-year-old middle schooler has been arrested on 1st Degree Terroristic Threat charges.

This starts on April 18th, with a student reporting another for telling others he had a firearm in his backpack. No firearm was located at the time. On April 22nd, the same student sent a Snap Chat message to another student with a photo of a handgun and a threat. The student was not in attendance that day.

The Howell County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer stayed at the school and safety protocols were initiated. The West Plains PD were called in for assistance, and law enforcement proceeded to the students home.

The mother and grandmother of the student were arrested for both an outstanding warrant and for interfering with law enforcement. Both the student, 12, and their brother, 17, were taken into custody by the Juvenile Division.

The names of the pair have not been released, as they are both juveniles.
