Howell Oregon Electric Issues Peak Alert

West Plains, Mo. – This morning, January 20th, 2022, Howell Oregon put out a message about a Peak Alert being issued at around 8:20. It read as follows:

“Due to the current extreme temperatures, Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative has entered a Peak Alert period. Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative is asking all members to alternate the use of major appliances, including washers, dryers, dishwashers, ovens and stoves from now to 9:00 a.m. If a peak electrical demand is reached it could cost the cooperative and its members hundreds of thousands of dollars. This does not mean that the supply of electricity is being depleted. This simply means that member demand for electricity is at its highest ever. Again, this Peak Alert period is from now to 9:00 a.m. Remember you can make a difference!”

While the Peak Alert is on and afterward, citizens are urged to alternate the use of their major appliances in order to avoid major costs to their electricity in the future. Remember, while the supply of energy is not gone, demand for electricity is higher than it has ever been.
