Illinois Man Arrested in Shannon County

From the Shannon County Sherriff’s Department:
 
On May 14, 2025, the Shannon County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the Winona Police Department, responded to an emergency call at the Winona Casey’s involving an active burglary and an assault with a pizza knife.
Upon arrival, Winona PD had detained Zachary D. Greer of Staunton, IL. As Detective Roberts approached, Greer launched into a tirade of racial slurs and became physically combative. Despite multiple warnings, Greer resisted arrest and was tased by Detective Roberts, but continued to fight through the effects. Officers from both agencies successfully restrained and cuffed Greer after a physical struggle.
Greer continued to make threats, stating he would resist every step of the way—including refusing to shower, dress out, or comply in jail. He was transported to the Carter County Jail.
Charges Filed:
Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Class E Felony) No Bond
Harassment 1st Degree (Class E Felony) – 2 Counts No Bond
