Increase Fire Danger in the Ozarks Today

The National Weather Service in Springfield has announced that today will see an increased risk of fire danger in the Ozarks, meaning that residents should be careful when burning leaves or trash.

The elevated fire risk means that erratic fire spread is much more likely. This is due to dry air being driven by strong southerly winds, along with a great deal of freshly shed foliage from the fall season.

During this time, outside burning is discouraged except by experienced fire control personel. In addition, activities that can cause open flames or sparks, such as parking on dry grass or throwing away cigarettes is discouraged as well.
