IZARD COUNTY, Ark. — Officials are warning residents about a text message scam circulating in the area that falsely claims recipients have an upcoming court date and must pay a fine.
According to the Izard County Sheriff’s Office, the Izard County District Court has received multiple calls on April 2 from individuals who reported receiving suspicious messages. The texts reportedly come from out-of-country phone numbers and include a link directing recipients to submit payment.
Authorities emphasized that the messages are fraudulent and should not be trusted.
Court officials do not contact individuals by text message to demand payment for fines or court-related matters.
Residents who receive one of these messages are advised to:
- Avoid clicking on any links
- Do not reply to the message
- Block the sending number
- Delete the text
Officials encourage community members to share the warning with others to help prevent additional victims.
Anyone with concerns about potential scams is encouraged to contact local law enforcement for guidance.
