Man Charged After Violent Assault at West Plains Motel

In the early hours of November 13, 2025, West Plains police responded to a report of an assault at the West Plains Motel on Porter Wagoner Blvd. Officers found a woman in the office, nude and covered in blood, with visible injuries including a large laceration to her nose and multiple contusions.

The victim identified her fiancé, Zachary Castellanos, as the assailant. She reported the assault began during a drive to Winona and escalated after returning to the motel.

Castellanos allegedly chased her with a broom handle, forced her into a vehicle, and struck her repeatedly with a tire iron. The victim sustained head, arm, and leg injuries, including a swollen and bruised hand.

She stated Castellanos continued to threaten her, prompting her to flee to the motel office for help. Castellanos reportedly followed her while still carrying the weapon but left before officers arrived.

Zachary Castellanos is charged with First Degree Assault, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Armed Criminal Action.
