Man Charged with Assault in Oregon County

An Oregon County man has been charged with third-degree assault following an altercation that occurred Tuesday evening, according to a report filed by Sgt. Bunting of the Oregon County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident began when the alleged victim contacted law enforcement claiming he had been assaulted by Kyle Barton. Sgt. Bunting met with the victim, who stated he had gone to Barton’s residence to retrieve personal belongings. Upon arrival, he alleged that Barton physically attacked him, striking him in the face and engaging in a brief struggle that left both men on the ground, the victim sustained visible injuries.

Sgt. Bunting later located Barton at the residence, where Barton admitted to the confrontation but claimed he acted out of fear, stating the other man was physically imposing and had made threats. A female witness also reported receiving messages from the alleged victim throughout the night. Barton declined to provide a written statement when questioned at the sheriff’s office.

Kyle Barton has been formally charged with assault in the third degree. The investigation remains ongoing.
