Missouri’s labor market continued to show growth in June, with the addition of 7,900 nonfarm payroll jobs, according to the latest Monthly Jobs Report released by the Missouri Department of Higher Education & Workforce Development. The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained steady at 4 percent.
Private sector jobs grew by 7,200, while government employment rose by 700. Over the year, Missouri gained 25,600 jobs compared to June 2024, although the unemployment rate increased slightly by 0.2 percentage points, from 3.8 to 4 percent.
Industries seeing monthly gains included:
- Private education and health services (+6,800)
- Leisure and hospitality (+4,100)
- Information (+200)
However, sectors such as manufacturing (-1,600), professional and business services (-1,100), and financial activities (-800) experienced job losses.
Year-over-year growth was led by education and health services (+25,200) and construction-related industries (+4,400), while professional services, manufacturing, and trade and transportation posted declines.
Missouri’s labor force participation rate stood at 63.5 percent—above the national average of 62.3 percent—and the state’s employment-population ratio was 61 percent. Missouri’s unemployment rate has remained at or below the national rate for more than a decade.
