Missouri Leaders Call on Senators to Reject Federal Medicaid Cuts

Community leaders from across Missouri gathered in the state capital today to urge U.S. Senators Josh Hawley and Eric Schmitt to oppose proposed federal Medicaid cuts passed by the U.S. House in May. The proposed legislation, they warned, would strip health coverage from more than 110,000 Missourians and jeopardize access to care across the state—especially in rural communities.

The press conference, organized by the Missouri Budget Project, brought together advocates, health professionals, and families who shared concerns about the harmful impact of new administrative burdens, including work requirements, that could cause eligible residents to lose coverage.

Health leaders emphasized that nearly 90% of Missourians under 65 on Medicaid are already working or would qualify for exemptions. Yet similar policies in other states have led to large losses in coverage due to red tape and system errors.
