NAEC Asks Members to Help “Beat the Peak” on Wednesday, July 23

North Arkansas Electric Cooperative (NAEC) is urging its members to take part in a community-wide effort to “beat the peak” in electricity usage during the afternoon and early evening hours on Wednesday, July 23. NAEC’s service area includes Baxter, Fulton, Izard, Marion, Sharp, and Stone Counties, all in Arkansas.
From 3 to 7 p.m., the cooperative is asking residents to reduce non-essential electricity use to help lower overall demand on the power grid. By cutting back during these peak hours, NAEC can reduce wholesale power costs—savings that ultimately benefit all co-op members.

“Everyone using less on-peak power means lower wholesale power costs for the co-op,” NAEC stated in a post. “That helps us all.”

Easy Ways to Reduce Power Use:

  • Adjust your thermostat up a degree or two.

  • Delay chores like running the dishwasher, washer, or dryer until later in the evening.

  • Cook with low-energy appliances like a microwave, slow cooker, or toaster oven instead of the stove or oven.

  • Hold off on using hot tubs and pool pumps until after 7 p.m.

The “Beat the Peak” initiative is part of NAEC’s broader efforts to promote energy efficiency and maintain stable electric rates for its members in north-central Arkansas.
