OAI receives funding from Howell Co. Commission for utility assistance

WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Ozark Action, Inc. has received County Cares Act funds from the Howell County Commissioners.

$90,000 will be used to provide utility assistance to Howell County citizens at or below 200% of the federal poverty level in order to help people keep essential utilities connected. Essential utilities defined as electricity, water, sewer, trash, natural gas, propane, and associated fees and charges.

Allowing individuals to maintain essential utilities without unnecessary disconnects and associated fees will assist in maintaining a viable economy, enabling Howell County to thrive throughout 2021.

Funds will be utilized like OAI’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), except these funds will cover all essential utilities as opposed to only heating or cooling, and will assist families up to 200% federal poverty guideline, assisting those just above traditional guidelines who normally fall thru the cracks.

Funds are for Howell County residents only and are available now through December 30, 2020 or until they have been expended.
