One killed, three seriously injured in Friday accident

ALTON, Mo. — One person was killed and three others seriously injured Friday morning after a two-vehicle accident near Alton.

A report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident happened around 10:40 am on Friday, December 6 when a northbound vehicle driven by 43-year-old Lillian Otyson of Thayer and a southbound vehicle driven by 21-year-old Kaylee Arasmith of Alton met near the center line and crashed head-on.

Arasmith was pronounced dead at the scene.

Otyson and two passengers, 20-year-old Quentin Stevens and 77-year-old Barabra Watson of Thayer, suffered serious injuries. Otyson and Stevens were both taken to Mercy hospital in Springfield by Air Evac while Watson was taken to Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains before being flown to Cox South hospital in Springfield by Life Flight.

The death marks the 40th for this year for Highway Patrol Troop G compared to 36 at this time last year.

Highway Patrol officials say accident reconstruction officers with the MSHP are working on recreating the accident scene to determine what exactly happened. The investigation is ongoing.

A Highway Patrol report states the accident happened around 10:40 am on Highway 19 south of Alton when the northbound vehicle driven by 43-year-old Lillian Otyson of Thayer crossed the center line and hit a southbound vehicle driven by 21-year-old Kaylee Arasmith of Alton head-on.

Arasmith was pronounced dead at the scene.
