Ozarks Healthcare Mammography Unit Helps Nurse Catch Breast Cancer Early

WEST PLAINS, MO- Shannon Lawrence, a Winona, Missouri, home health nurse takes pride in helping others. This act of kindness recently took on an even greater meaning as she took on one of the gravest health scares of her life.

Shannon went to her doctor for a checkup and had advised her that it was time for a mammogram as they are one of the most important routine screenings for breast cancer. At the time and given the screening would prompt her to miss a portion of her workday, she was originally reluctant.

Thanks to Ozark Healthcare’s mobile mammography unit, Shannon was able to reduce the screening’s travel time from a day to just fifteen minutes.

Unfortunately, Shannon’s screening detected two lumps on her right breast which required a double mastectomy. Her doctors believe the surgery which came later, was indeed a success.

If Shannon had not received the screening, her screening could have easily left her cancer undetected.
