Ozarks Healthcare is pleased to share that Dr. Muhammad Khan, interventional cardiologist, is providing expert cardiology services through the Ozarks Healthcare Heart and Lung Center, with expanded access for patients in both West Plains and Houston.
In addition to seeing patients in West Plains, Khan is also seeing patients at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston beginning May 27, increasing access to specialized heart care for patients across the region.
Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States, making access to timely, specialized cardiovascular care more important than ever, especially in rural communities where patients may otherwise need to travel long distances for treatment. According to the American Heart Association, someone dies from cardiovascular disease every 34 seconds, highlighting the critical need for timely, specialized care close to home.
Preventive care and ongoing management play a critical role in reducing the risk of serious cardiac events. Regular checkups, early screenings, and chronic care management for conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes can help identify concerns early and keep heart disease under control. Ozarks Healthcare offers comprehensive cardiovascular care, working closely with patients to manage these conditions proactively, helping many avoid the need for emergency interventions or advanced procedures whenever possible.
Khan brings extensive experience in diagnosing and treating cardiovascular disease, including performing life-saving interventional procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization (Cath) Lab. His expertise includes angioplasty and stent placement to treat blocked heart vessels, helping prevent heart attacks and improve patient outcomes.
“Dr. Khan’s continued presence and expanded availability are invaluable to the patients we serve,” Terence Farrell, Ozarks Healthcare President and CEO, said. “His expertise and commitment to high-quality care ensure that more individuals in our region have access to the cardiology services they need, close to home.”
Khan is board-certified and has trained at leading institutions, including St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield and the University of California, San Francisco.
Ozarks Healthcare supports this need through its advanced Cardiac Catheterization (Cath) Lab, where highly trained teams provide rapid, life-saving intervention for patients experiencing heart attacks. The organization has earned the prestigious Primary Heart Attack Center (PHAC) certification from The Joint Commission and Primary Stroke Center (PSC) certification from the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC), recognizing its commitment to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care.
These certifications highlight Ozarks Healthcare’s role as a regional leader in comprehensive cardiac and stroke care, ensuring patients have access to advanced treatment close to home. Achieving Level II Stroke and STEMI designations means patients can receive expert, time-sensitive care quickly, without the need to travel long distances. The Primary Heart Attack Center Certification specifically recognizes hospitals capable of performing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) and receiving patient transfers from other facilities.
“We are proud to partner with Ozarks Healthcare to expand access to specialized cardiology services for the patients and communities we serve,” Bill Bridges, CEO of Texas County Memorial Hospital, said. “Bringing Dr. Khan’s expertise to TCMH and the Houston area means our patients can receive high-quality, life-saving heart care close to home, surrounded by the support of their families and community. It’s an important step in helping our neighbors live healthier lives while strengthening the overall health of our region.”
Patients can continue to call the Ozarks Healthcare Heart and Lung Center to schedule appointments or obtain referrals. Khan will begin seeing patients in Houston on May 27, however, patients can now call to schedule visits.
