Public Statement on the Thomasville Flood Mitigation Project:
I’m pleased to announce the successful completion of the first phase of the Thomasville Flood Mitigation Project. While we wrapped up eight working days beyond our original schedule, the delay was largely due to the holiday season—and I certainly won’t fault our dedicated county employees for spending well-deserved time with their families.
This milestone marks a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to protect the homes and businesses of Thomasville. The newly completed infrastructure features a low point approximately five feet below the elevation of any nearby structures, and it’s been engineered to handle substantial volumes of water, effectively redirecting potential floodwaters away from town.
Looking ahead, we are awaiting the commencement of Phase Two, which is tied to the U.S. Forestry portion of the grant. This next phase will focus on stream bank stabilization to prevent erosion and safeguard critical county infrastructure from river encroachment.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who played a role in bringing this project to life—from the generous land donors and cooperative adjacent landowners, to the engineering firm for their exceptional work, and most importantly, to the hardworking team at the Northern District County Road Department. Your commitment and collaboration have made this achievement possible.
Thank you,
Jake Parker
District Two Associate Commissioner
