Missouri State Treasurer Vivek Malek is marking National 529 Day this May by offering a special $50 match for the first 800 new account holders who open and fund a MOST 529 Education Savings Plan account. The promotion, which runs throughout the month, requires a $50 contribution and the use of the promo code MOSTMAY.
MOST 529 accounts provide families with a tax-advantaged way to save for a wide range of education expenses—from K-12 tuition and registered apprenticeships to college and graduate school costs. Funds can also be used for books, housing, supplies, and computer equipment. In 2024, 23% of plan distributions in Missouri went toward K-12 education.
Since Malek took office in January 2023, nearly 10,000 new MOST 529 accounts have been opened, bringing the total to over 198,000 with $4.4 billion in assets. Missouri residents may also deduct contributions up to $8,000 per person—or $16,000 per couple—on their state income taxes.
