A Thayer man was arrested late Tuesday night following a reported domestic assault involving his pregnant girlfriend.
At approximately 9:57 p.m., police were dispatched to a residence in response to a physical domestic dispute. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the female victim outside the home, who stated that she had been placed in a chokehold by her boyfriend, Marvin Coleman, during an argument. She reported difficulty breathing during the incident and disclosed that she is currently pregnant.
The victim also indicated there may have been a handgun inside the residence. While attempting to contact Coleman at the front door, officers observed him walking nearby and made contact. Coleman declined to provide a statement but agreed to remain at the scene.
Visible redness was observed on the victim’s neck and arm, consistent with her account. After conducting a pat-down for officer safety, Coleman was placed under arrest for domestic assault and transported to the Thayer Police Department, where he was held on a 24-hour hold pending formal charges.
The victim declined medical treatment but rated her pain level as an “8” on a scale of 1 to 10. She provided a written statement and was informed of her legal options, including how to obtain an order of protection. Officers also provided her with contact information for a local domestic violence shelter.
Coleman has been charged with Assault in the Third Degree and is being held on a $5,000 bond. The investigation was documented via body-worn camera and remains ongoing.
