Theodosia man arrested after fleeing Ava police

On Tuesday, April 20, Sheriff Degase and members of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department responded to an agency assist call regarding a man fleeing on foot from Ava PD Lt. David Overcast near the Ava Walmart.

The subject was seen headed towards Y Hwy near the Ava Football Field. The suspect was captured by the Football field after he fled from Officers. Upon Sheriff Degase making contact with the subject, the subject recognized as Earl Sewell then began to resist arrest. Sewell was assisted to the ground by Sheriff Degase where Sewell continued to resist arrest until he was restrained by Sheriff Degase.

Sewell, 41, of Theodosia was booked into the Douglas County Jail on two active warrants. One warrant was a No Bond P&P Violation Warrant for not reporting as directed and not attending BIP Treatment as required, and the second warrant was a No Bond Vernon County Warrant for FTA on Peace Disturbance.

He is pending further charges from Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. Sewell has 16 prior arrests resulting in 33 felony charges and 2 misdemeanor charges.
